Craziness

My thoughts right now are on others. Two people specifically -

Lindsay Anderson - This is a girl I grew up with in California. We were very close in elementary school (she was my best friend's cousin...they lived a few door down from each other). Around high school things got weird. We both went our seperate ways and she struggled with drugs and eating disorders. She apparantly has cleaned up her life quite a bit since then.

My mom called me the other day to tell me that Lindsay got shot in her dad's home on Dec. 19th. She was making pizza and was "accidently" shot in the back. (I'm skeptical here, but is that anything new?) She was life-flighted to a Sacramento hospital and as of two days ago was upgraded to fair condition. I don't know any other details about this story, but I assume there are many more details. I feel horribly knowing that someone could go through that much at such a young life, only to pull through it and then be shot in the house she grew up in.

Rebecca - Many on my mom's board know Rebecca's story. Most of my blog readers don't. Rebecca is my neighbor and friend who got pregnant in May. We were ecstatic as this is her and her husband's first child. Everything was going great until 21 weeks gestation. Mark and Rebecca went in for the ultrasound, excited that they were finally going to find out if they were having a girl or a boy. Instead, they discovered that her membranes had ruptured a few days prior and that the chance of the baby's survival was very bleak...perhaps a 5-10% chance of survival if delivered that day.

Rebecca has lived everyday since then on bedrest. She is afforded the luxery of getting up only to use the restroom. She was admitted to Centennial Hospital in Nashville on October 18th, and is still there. Today was Day 75 or so of her hospital stay. If she doesn't go into labor in the next 48 hours, doctors will induce labor on January 1st.

Here's the worst part. Doctors have tried to prepare this family for the worst - that the baby may not even survive if the lungs are not developed enough. (Main problem with babies in this situation, and sadly...it does happen). Because there is little to no fluid, there is no way to check lung development prior to delivery. Ultrasounds have already shown the baby to have some degree of clubbed feet as a result of the lacking amniotic fluid.

Honestly, I think there will be nothing but awesome news for Mark and Rebecca. I truly expect them to come home with a healthy baby girl (Addison) after a very short stay in the NICU. Still, I know Rebecca. Although she is being as positive as possible, she is a mom-to-be. (We're a psychotic breed you know). If she's anything like me, her mind will wander on the 'what-ifs', and the worst-case scenarios. I was terrified having my first child under even the most normal and textbook of circumstances.

If you can please make a little room in your prayers for these two ladies, I would surely appeciate it. Both are looking at new chapters of their lives, having no idea what will happen over a few days' time. Thank you!
