Addison Elizabeth Pickering was born on Dec 30th and she is such a miracle! She was born about 4 hours after my last blog post.
They had her on 40% oxygen for the first 2 hours, and then down to 25% oxygen. The next morning she was at 21% (which is what we breathe, but her oxygen was just a little faster...like us sticking our heads out of a car window).
Doctors wanted to get her fluids up when she was first born (explains the feeding tube), and I think she's having a little trouble nursing, so Rebecca is pumping and all that.
Addison should be home in a day or two. The estimate was a week or less in NICU. She was stepped down to the less severe NICU 1-2 days after birth.
Doctors are wanting to cast her legs/feet as soon as she's able to do all the basics well. She'll probably leave the hospital in casts. I tried to see Addison, but the nurses kicked Mark and Rebecca out of the NICU for a few hours so the baby could sleep. (That was right when I got there). So, I only got to see the mom, but it was worth it. I've never seen a postpartum mom look SO happy.
Rebecca said that the best thing in the world was getting to hold Addison just after birth. Everyone assumed she would be carted straight out of the room to the NICU, but they asked if Rebecca would like to hold her and of course she lost it. So sweet!
Thank you for your prayers. Rebecca was released on New Year's Day, but the hospital is comping them a room until Addison can go home. Once home, they plan to basically quarantine her (RSV season and all). Not even in-laws will be able to see/hold her. I don't blame them in trying to protect her.
