We spent the day outdoors at two different barbeques.
The first one was at our friend Monica's house. She's a member of my mom's group, and she courageously hosted a barbeque for us, our hubbies, and our kids. I'd say there were at least 30 people there. It was outdoors, and included an inflatable waterslide, swingset, kiddie pool, and lots of food. (Bet you can't guess what I liked the most.) It was really hot...mid 90's and humid. Ick, ick, ick. We were there from about 11 am to 2 pm. Thanks Monica for such a great time! The food was wonderful too.
Andrew fell asleep on the way home. The Blazer's window decided to roll up on the way home as well. YEAH!!!! It went up and down like nothing had ever happened. I left it open about an inch or so (we have rain guards over the window), so the summer may be a bit bearable. There's no telling when that window will stop working again, so I'm not messing with it until we get it looked at. Time to hit Angie's hubby up for another repair.
Around 5:30 or so, Natalie and I headed over to our neighbor Misty's house. Misty used to babysit Andrew when I worked for Verizon. She was having a barbeque for about 50 people, with fireworks following. Mike and Andrew met up with us after naptime. We decided to stay close to home instead of doing the local university scene. We didn't feel like messing with the horrible traffic afterwords, and wanted to be close to home for the kids' sake. Good call...Natalie slept in Misty's house most of the time. Monica and her family joined us at Misty's, so we spent the majority of the day together.
Oh, I forgot to mention. The fireworks that you can buy out here are so cool! In California, you can't buy any aerial fireworks...just those stupid flower thingies that hum around on the concrete. I guess they're afraid of fires. Out here, you can buy professional looking ones. They'll shoot about 100 feet in the air and they look like the real deal. Mike was launching a few of those and was in testosterone heaven. In fact, the whole neighborhood was going nuts with them. I'm still not a fan of the home launched fireworks...they freak me out. I keep worrying about all of the "what ifs". I was hit in the leg last night by some neighbor's firework debris, and it hurt! I like to keep my distance from the rookies if you know what I mean. All that aside, it's still pretty cool to see 7-10 firework shows going on around you at once.
Andrew melted down around 9:15 or so, so we packed his butt up (Alie's too) and walked them ALL the way across the street to our house. Much nicer than the one and a half hours it takes to come home from the univesity (normally a fifteen minute drive.)
I'm beat, and can't wait for the rest of this week. We have no commitments to speak of. Yehaaaaa!!! I can't wait to just veg and make a homecooked meal for once.
