Who knew?I just got hired today as a Chili's server. This was a super fast process, and I had barely decided to go out for a part-time job and Voila! I had one. The idea was to find something super part-time (say two nights a week) that avoided the whole childcare issue. Momma needed to get out of the house a bit, we could appreciate the income my new 'hobby' generated, and I'm always up for a new adventure.

The store I'll be at will be a brand new one at The Avenues in Murfreesboro. In fact, our managers are working out of a hotel room at the moment. I am friends with one of the hiring managers, and his wife works for Chili's too. I spoke with her on Tuesday, asking if the new Chili's was still hiring. She asked if I wanted in, and that was pretty much it. Jason talked to the store manager and they decided to take me into their overstaffed store, provided I passed all the prerequisites. So, here's what it looked like:
-
-Tuesday: I spoke with Amanda who spoke to Jason who spoke to Scott (manager). I was told to come in and fill out my application on the following day.
-
-Wednesday: Filled out the application and did a mini interview, which consisted of Scott saying, "Hey, you live in my neighborhood!" (He lives on the street behind me.) He confirmed that my last stint of waiting tables was somewhere in the ballpark of 13 years ago (eak!). His response? No problem. Wow! He asked me to come in the following day for a written test.
-
-Thursday: I took the hardest pre-employment exam ever. Seriously, I had no clue that Chili's employees had to go through that. Ugh! It ranged from math (really complex percantage calculations, pen and paper only), to English, to reading comprehension, to personality test. I figured I'd have the English thing in the bag, but no...they sprung a word on me that I was utterly clueless about: parsimonious. What the hell? Luckily I guessed it right, but it was purely a stab in the dark. (Ironically it's a synonym for 'frugal'. I had a huge laugh over that when I Googled the definition. You'd think I'd know that one for sure!)

I start my orientation on Saturday...as in the day after tomorrow. Oh vey! Wish me luck. The store opens August 7th and hopefully I can blow the dust off of my serving skills.
