I'm pretty sure I gained five pounds today. I think I'll wake up tomorrow to find that my underwear shrunk one more size it the dag blamed clothes dryer.
We went to Maggiano's for the first time with our friends Amanda and Jason. When they say 'fine Italian', they mean it. Wow! I have never actually eaten a FIVE COURSE dinner until today. In the past, when people would refer to a five course meal, I could only name about three of the courses before I gave up. (Cultered I am not. Cute maybe, but cultered...no.)
It was insane. We chose to do family-style dining, meaning that they serve a plate of whatever you order, and everyone at the table will dish out their serving from that plate. Here is what we had (let me see if I can remember all of it):
-House Salad
-Spinach Salad (with hoity toity fancy things on it...no way of knowing really what it was.)
-Calimari - probably the best I've ever had. Even Mike loved it.
-Jumbo Crab Cakes
-Chicken Pesto Fettucini
-Eggplant Parmesean
-Chicken Saltimboca
-Steak Medallions w/ mashed potatoes, onion strings and gravy
-Tirimasu
-Chocolate Turtle Cake
Honestly, each of these dishes had way fancier names than I'm giving credit too, but you get the gist of what we inhaled.
The food was out of this world, made better of course with the thick sauces or gravies that accompanied each dish. I topped mine off with my first (and subsequent second) Black & Tan. I had only heard of Black & Tans before, but it is the best of both worlds. Maggiano's combines Guinness Draught and Sharpps Pale Ale together to make one extremely mommy-pleasing beer. (I'm so culured, aren't I? This coming from the same gal who balked at the individual hand towels while washing my hands in the ladies room--do they really want me to throw this away??? And then there's always the dilemma of which fork to use. Truly, I don't get out enough.)
All I could think as we got up from the table to leave was, "thank God for empire waisted dresses and for flat soled shoes."
Amanda and Jason, we had a blast. Thank you so much for including us on your special day!
