Happiness and Sadness

Yesterday was Thursday, but I wanted to blog two noteworthy things.

Chandra is pregnant! This is a friend on my mom's board who struggled hellatiously with infertility issues a few years ago. After a very long journey, she eventually conceived her second child (Makenna), who is only one year younger than Natalie. On Thursday, she blindsided all of us with a surprise pregnancy. As joyous as it is to hear of anyone's pregnancy, this particular one stands out as one that puts a grin on your face for days on end. We are so excited for her and her family!

Jenna's birthday was Thursday as well. She would have been 36 this year. (This is the friend from my mom's board who died last June of Leukemia). One of the moms on my mom's board posted a thread entitled "Jenna", and for just a brief moment, it brought me back to the time when we always saw "Jenna" as a subject line: asking her a question, just saying 'hi', or seeing how her recent vacation went. Just seeing her name tempted me to ponder the possibility that she was still here, and that I simply imagined her death. Of course, that's not the case.

So, amidst the elation of learning about new life, I also spent some time remembering Jenna's happy-go-lucky spirit, and her passionate desire to get us librarian-types out of our pitiful shells.

Kristen, even though Jenna's bday was rough, I love your remembrance of her "happy-go-lucky spirit" and her desire to pull people out of their shells. Those words describe her so well. :)

Thank you for your excitement and kind words too. We feel so blessed and it's so heartwarming to me that people understood our battle and can appreciate how much of a miracle this is. Where's that "love" emoticon when I need it?!
