Yesterday was quite the mess.
It was payday. Mike's paycheck was 24 hours short. Not 2 hours, not 4 hours. Twenty Four! That's a lot. There was some snafu with Mike's FMLA (family medical leave act). Basically Verizon paid out vacation time for the first three days of Nathan's life, but Metlife messed up something and incorrectly denied the claim. So...Verizon charged back the three days in question. It's getting worked out, but we have to wait for this person to file that form, then for another person to notify the payroll, blah, blah, blah. Thank God we got dialed up on Dave Ramsey's baby step #1. Still, I get bitter when I have to touch our Emergency Fund for anything...even emergencies. Thankfully, not all bills are due at once, so maybe it'll get worked out before everything comes due and we won't have to mess with savings.
AND...within the same hour, Mike got some even better news. Somehow he missed the fact that he got a D in one of his UOP classes. Verizon pays for these classes up front, but if you get worse than a C, then you have to pay it back. Well, Mike thought this whole time that the D was really a B. Seriously??? Yup, that's what he swears by. Well, this happened two classes ago. What does that mean? Well the money has already been paid to UOP, so now we owe the Tuition Reimbursement group. Not only do we get to unexpectedly cough up $1,400 for a class, but now the tuition reimbursement is on hold for the last class he just finished (in March)...which he just submitted the request for. So now we are looking like fools to UOP as we owe money for the last class. The tuition reimbursement people will process the funds for the last class once we pay for 1/3 or 1/4 of the $1,400. And...Mike can't move forward with his A+ Certification course and testing until this mess is cleared up.
I want to scream.
Poor Mike knew I would be fit to be tied with all this news, so he bravely called me. I answered the phone with a sick baby screaming on one hip, a constipated daughter crying at my feet, a bored and whiny five year old behind me, and lunchtime preparations underway. He got halfway through the bad news and I told him to just stop...we'd have to talk about it all later. I can't believe I'm not on medication yet.
