I played the brave mom card again today. I took the kids to the pool at the YMCA by myself. (I'm not well-known for my courage when it comes to two non-swimmers and pools). Andrew had his life jacket on, and the water was 3 feet deep, so I figured I could manage.
Natalie discovered a new favorite...the Frog Slide. It looks like a huge frog and you slide down it's tongue into the water. She had to climb up steps that were built like stairs...maybe 4 or 5 of them. Well, during the course of the morning, she fell going up the stairs TWICE. The poor thing. The second time she fell, she scraped her chin and bit the sides of her tongue. Blood was everywhere and she was howling!
Andrew couldn't help but spread the news to everyone who was at the pool: the lifeguards, the parents, the kids. Each person got a rendition of how "baby sister fell and cut her tongue and was bleeding everywhere". Talk about embarassing. I even had a few lifeguards come over to make sure she was ok. We quickly did the Walk of Shame back into the locker room.
Eating for the rest of the day has been a bit of a challenge. I can tell the poor dear is still hurting, so I've been doping her up on baby ibuprofin. Thankfully the tongue is the fastest healing part of the human body, so let's hope she's in better spirits tomorrow.
