Mike News

Last weekend, Mike ran his first 5k run. Yay Mike! 5k translates into 3 point something miles...I'm not the greatest with the metric system. I think it's 3.2? Anyway, he ran it at MTSU (Middle TN State University) here in Murfreesboro. His time was a little over 29 minutes. He did a little better on his time than he thought he would, so that's awesome! The kids and I were there and hung out with our friend Jen. Her husband and step-dad were running as well, along with our small group leader. Mike runs with all these guys at the greenway and battlefield. It was pretty cool to see him do that. He's been wanting to do this for months now, but school had always gotten in the way. He's hooked and already talking about the next one. Here we go.

Speaking of school...Mike and I decided that it was best for him to take a break. The main reason being financial, but there are other reasons as well. He needs a break from the stress and wants to spend more time with his family and friends. Right now, he's a slave to his work and his homework. He finishes a class tomorrow and has another one starting immediately after. He's going to see if he can weasle out of the new class as it's the first class in a multi-class series. Basically Verizon pays a set amount of money per year for tuition. He's reached that dollar limit with this new class and we can't justify taking out yet another student loan to fund an education that he's burnt-out on. He has every intention on going back when the new year starts, but he really wants to be able to enjoy the fall and Holidays with us while not racking up buttloads of debt. His classes are $1,200 each and are only 5 weeks long. They run the classes back to back, so you can only imagine the costs involved. It's fine if it goes on Verizon's bill...just not ours. We owe enough as it is for last year's "extra" educational expenses.

Way to go Mike!!! I totally agree about postponing school if your burnt out! That's one of the reasons I haven't gone back yet!
