Happy Birthday to Me!

Today was my 31st birthday. The only thing I actually had 'planned' was lunch with my friends. Mike took the day off because the last few weeks have been hectic. He kept Alie so I could go to lunch kid-free. (Andrew was at school.)

Lunch was about the best thing that happened all day. Although Andrew understood it was my birthday, apparently he felt that I should have had a party, and a Happy Birthday song, etc. I told him that Old People birthdays suck. (Well, not exactly, but something like that anyway.) He and his sister protested my boring birthday by throwing bloody fits and acting like goons during the majority of our "quality family time".

We hit up a few stores for some shopping, but the only thing I really bought for me was a set of knitting needles (I didn't have that size), and a nursing tank top. Oh the fun! We also went to Macaroni Grill being as we NEVER go there and it was supposed to be a big treat. Well, the kids pulled out all stops and Mike and I were soooo done. I ordered Tiramisu (my favorite) as my 'birthday cake', but wound up ordering it to go an account of our kids being kids.

We came home to clean because our house is an absolute disaster, and seriously I really only want a clean house for my birthday. After another hour and a half of kid-fit throwing, we had had enough. Both kids were sent to bed, both fighting it like mad. We finally threw Alie in the pack in play in our room and shut Andrew in the kids' room. There is silence for the first time since we picked Andrew up from school.

So, here I sit...gorging on Tiramisu and thinking that next year has GOT to be better. It could have been worse, I'm sure, but I'm so glad it wasn't.
