What???? Hitting Close to Home...

Today was a freaky day for our neighborhood. Long story made short (can I actually pull that off???)...

I think our ice cream man is a child molester. I'm not kidding...there's no sarcasm here whatsoever. Yesterday and today, a school bus driver in our subdivision saw him taking pictures of kids that were coming off of the school bus. Word got around pretty quickly and we had two police officers here searching his ice cream truck. I pray that they found enough evidence to search his house and other areas of his life. But then, if they find enough evidence, then that means somebody's child was put in some sort of danger.

I took too many classes about pedophiles and the like when I minored in criminal justice. These guys are sick. He totally fits the bill for one, purposely putting himself in a low-profile job that gets him near children, stalking them, profiling them, searching for the right ones who are out and about by themselves. Studying them. I just want to throw up thinking about it. Who knows if he has pictures of my kid or not? He's in our neighborhood CONSANTLY, always slowing down when he sees a group of kids, making multiple trips around our neighborhood. I just assumed he was trying to drum up sales by slowing down around the kids, but now I'm sure it was something else. I mean, when you've passed by six times, everyone's bought what they wanted.

I am so glad we never bought anything from him. Something about paying $1 for a 30 cent popcicle seems absurd to me. I'll walk inside and get one myself. Plus, once Andrew learns that you can get ice cream from that truck, it's all downhill. I don't need him being whiny and begging constantly everytime he hears the music.

I live in middle class suburbia. We are a tight-knit community and leave our doors unlocked with no worries. Things like this DON'T happen here. I feel like I'm already an uptight and paranoid mom, and this does nothing but fuel my fire all the more. Please hug your babies a little closer tonight.

Raising kids is hard enough without the worries that people want to harm them. Tantrums, attitudes, diapers, emotional well-being? That's a cake walk compared to things that happen right outside your front door.

Sorry to be so pessimistic. I guess I'm just becoming more street-wise than I care to be.

That is so scary! I'd be freaking out about the pictures! We have a paranoia with the ice cream people too... I can't remember ever letting my kids buy from them and they know not to even ask.. they are just creepy, not to mention way expensive! I hope they take care of this guy so he can't harm anyone! HUGS!!

Tasha- Our old ice cream man was named Peter. He was from Poland but he was harmless. He moved back to Poland and this new creep took over.
