I'm So Excited. I'M NOT NUTS!!!

Some of you know this, some of you don't. Ever since I can remember, I have had this issue. Everytime I stand up...and I mean EVERYtime...I start to black out. Truly, everything goes black for just a brief moment, I feel dizzy, then it clears up. I grew up thinking that was normal and didn't think to mention it to anyone because I thought everyone went through that.

It wasn't until a few years ago that I mentioned it to a few people. I found that, in contrast to the majority of my friends, I was a rare bird. What piqued my interest even more was when I would come across a friend or two who had similar symptoms: extremely low blood pressure (mine is 98 over 56), light headedness, low body temperature (97 degrees), and being out of breath after climbing one flight of stairs. (What's that about??? I go to the gym 3-4 times a week!!!)

I tried to go through a cardiologist around this time last year. I wanted to get to the bottom of it. After wearing a heart monitor for 2 days, the prognosis was "a severe case of being normal...nothing wrong found, even normal people have issues from time to time" This after they stated the device wasn't functioning correctly while I had it and it wasn't providing them enough information. Nice. So, like any other well-meaning person, I gave up.

I have a few friends who go to Sandy, a kinesiologist (natural medicine). I have spent the past year staying as far away from that as I could because I envisioned burning incense, nature music, and trickling fountains. Not my scene. After hearing enough friends' stories, I decided I have nothing else to lose. I was tired of wasting co-pays and time only to be told that I am treading the thin line between "medical mystery" and "boringly normal". Generally medical doctors provide drugs to treat the symptoms, but rarely solve the root cause of the problem.

Well, within 10 minutes of seeing the un-incensed, musicless, fountain barren Sandy, I had my answer. My adrenal glands are shot. She did a vitality reading and rated my vitality at a zero. (Scale of 0 to 10, 10 being the best). I told her I have had these symptoms as long as I can remember...from the time I was 11 or even earlier. Adrenal glands are what help a person process stress, among a slew of other things. Some symptoms of adrenal dysfunction include:fatigue and weakness, suppression of the immune system, muscle and bone loss, moodiness or depression, hormonal imbalance, skin problems, autoimmune disorders, and dozens of other symptoms. This website that I googled may help explain more: http://www.womentowomen.com/adrenalfatigue/index.asp?id=1&campaignno=adrenalfatigue&adgroup=adgroup1&keywords=adrenal

Sandy gave me one supplement for the adrenal issue, and one to strengthen my heart valve (to solve the irregular beating...that should be a thing of the past in 6 weeks or so!). I go back in three weeks to get checked out again. I can't believe that taking one supplement will fix the dozens of symptoms that accompany this. My doctor would have provided dozens of prescriptions for the same issues.

Kristen, you're an amazing friend and I am sure that Jenna knew that. How can you underestimate your role in Jenna's life after reading what you just wrote. I do understand you wishing that you did more or said more because I feel exactly the same way. I never knew that you and Jenna had the same favorite drink from Starbucks in common. Thank you for sharing that.
